Who it's for: Efficiency, Demand Response, and VPP Aggregators
The New Market Access Program, which was approved by the CPUC on December 2nd, is about to launch with a budget of $150M for the summer peak reductions in 2022 and 2023.
This is NOT your typical efficiency program!
Market Access breaks down all the barriers to participation by paying aggregators (companies like yours that deliver all sorts of solutions to reduce energy use in buildings) for the value of your portfolio of customers (what we think of as a Virtual Power Plant) to the grid. We pay you for reductions, with a focus on reducing energy consumption between 4 pm and 9 pm in the summer.

Your business model is up to you! New HVAC, insulation, controls, behavior, refrigeration, lighting… residential, commercial, all are fair game. How you get the results is up to you and your customers.
Not only that, this new program will be able to offer incentives that are significantly more lucrative than traditional energy efficiency programs, as it's responding to the State’s grid emergency. So you will have more margin than ever to scale up quickly, and your customers can get a much better deal — which will increase demand.
Participating aggregators will be able to start submitting projects in Q2 2022, through the end of 2023. The decision specifies that after the first two years, the program will then become part of the ongoing portfolio.
