OpenEE is now Recurve!
As we move toward decarbonization, energy efficiency is shifting from programs focused on light bulbs or furnaces to markets that value changes in energy consumption as an actual grid resource.
Simple energy efficiency has evolved from a list of deemed measures to an ecosystem of behind the meter solutions we call demand flexibility. Rather than “saving energy,” our new purpose is to balance renewable generation, replace aging grid infrastructure and reduce carbon by shifting loads to periods of clean energy.
Energy efficiency is now all about flexibility, and combines a range of behind the meter solutions from traditional building performance upgrades, to controls and IoT, behavior, and even storage and EVs.
Demand flexibility is the new name of the game, with a goal of reshaping the demand curve.
So with that in mind, OpenEE is changing its name to Recurve.
We are excited to see the revolution we helped start begin to take flight, with metered pay for performance programs in California, New York, Massachusetts, and Oregon. Demand-side pay for performance markets that include payments based on the time of savings are driving innovative business models and private investment--it's not a theory anymore, it's happening.
Over the past five years, Recurve has dedicated itself to creating transparent methods, open source software, and a platform that revolutionizes the way energy efficiency is measured, deployed and procured.
As part of this transition, we have contributed our work on the CalTRACK Methods and the OpenEEmeter open source code base to Linux Foundation Energy (LFE). The Linux Foundation hosts many of the most important open source projects in the world, including Linux. By joining a community with more than 1,000 companies backing tens of thousands of active developers, our projects will now be able to harness the full power of the broader open source community to fuel innovation at unmatched speed and scale.
Our Recurve Platform provides enterprise scalable implementations of the OpenEEmeter that power many of the most innovative utilities and aggregators in the country.
